31/10/2023

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Prague Botanical Garden’s annual Pumpkin Halloween Festival, and let me tell you, it was an extraordinary autumn experience! From October 13th to October 31st, the garden was transformed into a realm of pumpkin artistry, interactive fun, and Halloween celebrations. One of the festival’s standout features was the incredible Atlantic Giant pumpkin, which tipped the scales at a jaw-dropping 107.6 kg. I’m excited to take you on a virtual tour of this colorful and creative autumn extravaganza.

A Journey to Asia

My adventure began with a journey to Asia, all thanks to the incredibly detailed pumpkin decorations. These stunning works of art were crafted by students from the Czech Horticultural Academy in Mělník. As I strolled through the garden, I encountered pumpkins carved into dragons, geishas, rickshaws, Himalayan peaks, lanterns, and more. The skill and creativity of these students truly left me in awe.

Interactive Fun and Games

The festival was not just about admiring pumpkins; it was also about interactive engagement. I had a blast participating in various games and activities involving pumpkins. The interactive exhibits really sparked my imagination and showed just how versatile and fun these humble gourds can be.

Of course, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see the colossal Atlantic Giant pumpkin!

The Mystery of the Giant Pumpkin

Of course, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see the colossal Atlantic Giant pumpkin. At a whopping 107.6 kg, it’s truly a mystery how nature can produce something so enormous. The intrigue surrounding this mammoth pumpkin added an extra layer of excitement to the festival, and I couldn’t help but wonder about the secrets it held.

Halloween Celebrations and Lantern Parade

From October 13th to 31st, Halloween took center stage. The garden was decked out with all the spooky and fun elements of the holiday. The highlight of the evening was the lantern parade, which wove its way through the garden. The warm glow of the lanterns against the backdrop of the pumpkins made for a truly enchanting experience.

If you have the chance to visit Prague during this time of year, I highly recommend experiencing this one-of-a-kind festival.

A Visit to Fata Morgana and the Botanical Garden’s Vineyard

One of the most enchanting aspects of the Prague Botanical Garden is the Fata Morgana greenhouse, a true horticultural wonder. During my visit, I was transported to different corners of the world as I explored various climatic zones, from arid deserts to lush rainforests. The diversity of plant life within these glass walls is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s like taking a global botanical journey in a single day. The Fata Morgana greenhouse is a haven for plant enthusiasts, offering a chance to marvel at rare and exotic species from far-flung destinations.

Not far from the Fata Morgana greenhouse, I stumbled upon the garden’s very own vineyard. Nestled in the heart of the botanical oasis, the vineyard is a delightful surprise. The neatly arranged rows of vines set against the backdrop of the lush gardens create a picturesque scene. While I didn’t get to taste the fruits of the vine during my visit, the sight of the flourishing grapevines was a reminder of how this garden offers a myriad of experiences, from the enchanting world of plants in Fata Morgana to the rustic charm of a vineyard. It’s a testament to the diversity and beauty that the Prague Botanical Garden has to offer, making it a destination that truly has something for every nature lover.
